Services

At Somatic Physical Therapy, we treat you with our hands, not just machines. We offer a full range of manual therapies, as well as both traditional and non-traditional techniques for the best in comprehensive care.

Somatic Evaluation

At Somatic Physical Therapy, we don’t treat symptoms – we treat our patients. That’s the Somatic difference. Before determining what physical therapy practices are best suited for your care, we need to establish a baseline assessment of your strength, flexibility and any pain or neurological symptoms you may be experiencing as well as your overall functional abilities.  This standard evaluation is required for every new patient so we can accurately provide a diagnosis, prognosis and create a custom physical therapy program that is designed to treat your medical issues and alleviate your symptoms long-term.

Trigger Point Therapy

Just like it sounds, trigger points are those areas of centralized tightness in muscle tissue around our body – they often cause pain, discomfort and are responsible for chronic pain throughout our daily lives.  Most times they go unnoticed and are overlooked as areas where “we hold our stress.”  By applying manual pressure to these trigger points, Dr. Nick is an expert at relieving the tightness in the muscle tissues that is responsible for the soft tissue restriction, which causes pain symptoms. After your first Trigger Point Therapy session, we promise you won’t need any more deep-tissue massages.

Dry Needling

For patients with chronic pain and muscular conditions, dry needling has been proven through research to decrease inflammation and pain while increasing mobility and strength. Somatic provides a progressive local twitch response (LTR) treatment using sterile mono-filament needles.  Dr. Nick holds a certification for this procedure and has experienced an overwhelmingly positive response from patients that couldn’t find pain relief through alternative avenues and traditional methods.

NCV/EMG Testing

When it’s not clear why you’re experiencing numbness, tingling, pain, weakness, or muscle cramping that doesn’t go away, nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and electromyography (EMG) tests may be helpful. These electro-diagnostic tests measure the electrical activity of muscles and nerves to assist your healthcare provider in diagnosing your condition and planning treatment related to nerve and/or muscle dysfunction.

Gait/Running Analysis

Most of us don’t consciously think about the way we walk, run or exercise – unless we’re experiencing discomfort, pain or suffering from a lingering injury.  We often mistake this for muscle soreness or fatigue after exercise.  Fortunately, Dr. Nick specializes in Gait Analysis and through a series of assessments can determine biomechanical abnormalities, functional muscle weakness and areas at risk for injury.  At Somatic, a comprehensive evaluation of posture, gait technique and even footwear selection can assist with fall and injury prevention, balance and stabilization techniques and muscle efficiency.

Pre/Post-Partum

Additional weight, abnormal posture, stress, and hormones are just a few of the factors contributing to pain and discomfort during and after pregnancy. The shift in your center of gravity affects your posture leading to a cascade of issues that decrease motivation to be active and socialize with others. These issues can be eased through natural physical therapy interventions including trigger point therapy and specific core-strengthening activities including Neurac/Redcord suspension training.

Neurac with Redcord

It is scientifically proven that pain and inactivity can distort the signals the brain sends to our muscles. Over time these changes alter the motor-recruitment strategies causing abnormal movement patterns within the body. Neurac treatment utilizes the Redcord suspension system to isolate and correct the weak links in the muscular chain. This means quickly reducing the pain and dysfunction while promoting proper muscle activation and performance.

Posture/Ergonomics

Whether you work remotely or on the job-site, chances are the demands on you to become more productive require you to sacrifice your personal comfort and health for efficiency.  It’s easy to forget that our bodies require constant attention, diligence and care.  Dr. Nick takes a formal and structured approach towards evaluating how you work within your occupation.  By assessing your physical and cognitive parameters alongside your job duties, Dr. Nick is able to identify potential risks and make transformative recommendations to enable you to live a healthier and happier lifestyle – at and away from work.
