Important Information About COVID-19

Here at Somatic Physical Therapy, the health and safety of our patients and staff during this time is our highest priority. The Department of Homeland Security and state governments have deemed physical therapy an essential component of health care during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic; therefore, our office will remain open to serve those in need.

New safety protocols are in-place, guided by the CDC, to protect our patients and employees who enter our clinic. We hope that by providing this information, you can make an informed decision to continue your plan of care with us during this time.

The following protocols are now in place:

Patient Screening

All patients will be screened upon arrival to make sure they are not exhibiting symptoms. If a patient is presenting with COVID-19 symptoms, they will be advised to return home and contact their physician.

Staff Screening

All employees will be screened for COVID-19 daily. Those presenting any level of symptoms will return home and follow up with their physician before returning to work.

Health Hygiene Protocols

Ongoing reinforcement to all staff regarding hand washing and other preventative measures for equipment and supplies are in place and enforced. We thoroughly sanitize all spaces and each piece of therapy equipment before and after each patient.

Physical Distancing

We have individual exam rooms for each patient that you will only share with your therapist. We have adjusted our schedules so that appointments are staggered to decrease the number of patients in our clinics at the same time.

Visitor Policy

In order to avoid crowds in the waiting area, please do not bring visitors. If you need someone to accompany you to your appointment, please have them wait in the car or remain outside of the building while you receive care.

Mask Requirement

All patients, therapists, and staff members are kindly asked to wear a face covering. Please bring a mask to your appointment. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you.

If you do not feel comfortable coming to the office for care during this time, we will gladly reschedule your appointment for a later date. We offer in-home visits as well as virtual visits where you can easily connect with one of our licensed therapists virtually. Please call or email our office to set up and appointment. Your health is essential. If you are experiencing pain, decreased mobility or function, or other healthcare challenges that could benefit from therapy, delaying care could be detrimental to your mental and physical health.

Here are some commonly asked questions regarding telemedicine:

Q: How long has telemedicine been available?

A: Telemedicine was first used by NASA in the 1960’s with astronauts traveling into outer space. It was understood at that time that any delay in medical treatment can have detrimental effects on a person’s health. In today’s world, telemedicine is utilized to deliver access to instant, high quality medical care for patients that they would otherwise be unable to obtain because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Q: Doesn’t therapy need to be hands on?

A: It is true that we use hands on techniques to get some of our clients better but knowing is half the battle. What most of our clients tell us is the most valuable part of their treatment is the knowledge of what is happening with their body how to overcome the pain in order for healing to take place. We are able to do that through our virtual physical therapy assessment which allows us to monitor your symptoms while watching you move and performing tests to determine the root cause of your pain.

Q: Why don’t I just wait until I can come in-person?

A: If you are able to come into the office for treatment that is preferred. If not, why wait and suffer when you can start therapy in the comfort of your own home? The federal government has classified Somatic as an essential business during this global pandemic. If you are experiencing pain and dysfunction, it could be detrimental to your mental and physical well-being to delay medical treatment. Just give us a call and we will help get you started today!
